Our Services
Bridge OT provides community-based occupational therapy for people living in Newcastle and its surrounds. We focus on providing services for adults living with disabilities (physical, cognitive, neurological and visual) and age-related illnesses. Bridge OT is now accepting referrals for NDIS (plan and self managed), medicare, my aged care and private clients.
FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENTS
We complete functional capacity assessments (FCA). During an FCA, our occupational therapist will assess your environment, performance of daily activities, and discuss goals. We then utilise this information, and the best available evidence to guide the development of recommendations. These recommendations include the occupational therapy intervention and supports (e.g. assistance) that you require to improve your participation and performance of daily activities.
INTERVENTIONS
We facilitate a range of evidence-based interventions:
✓ Assistive Technology and Equipment (e.g. wheelchairs, adaptive aids and apps)
✓ Home Modifications (e.g. grab rails and bathroom remodelling)
✓ Therapy (e.g. cognitive remediation strategies, falls prevention, self-care retraining, community/work integration training and stroke rehabilitation)
HOME MODIFICATIONS
We complete home environment assessments, and recommend home modifications that will enhance your safety. We may recommend the installation of ramps, grab rails, lighting and tactile aids that will improve your mobility at home and prevent falls. Within the NDIS scheme, Bridge OT facilitate low-medium cost home modifications and will refer to other occupational therapists if high cost modifications are required.
ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY & EQUIPMENT
Individuals experiencing disabilities and age-related conditions may not be able to complete daily activities (e.g. walking or showering) safely due to their impairments. After assessing a client, an occupational therapist can prescribe assistive technology and equipment that enables a person to participate in activities they need and want to do. At Bridge OT, our occupational therapist can prescribe wheelchairs, apps, daily living aids, seating systems and caregiver assistance to support independence and safety.
